150 NEW NAMES announced for The Great Escape

Happy Wednesday! This week The Great Escape dropped another wave of names giving us 150 new acts to add to our list and pray they don’t clash over the weekend!

The Great Escape have really treated us this time with a massive range of genres including pop, electronic, punk, soul, rap, Americana and R&B. We wanted to highlight some of the names that were recently announced that we are SO excited to hear live.

Modern Biology

Tarun Nayar, known as Modern Biology is from Canada, bringing ‘plant music’ to the masses. Originally educated as a biologist, veteran musician Tarun has combined his passion for nature and sound together in an ambient project that is organismic, immediate, uplifting, and deeply contextual. He uses modular synthesis, home built synthesizers and other analog equipment to improvise with the natural vibrations of a certain place and time – via plant bioelectricity, latent electromagnetic radiation, and even the earth’s resonant hum. Trained from childhood in Indian classical music, he uses the system of Indian raga to mold his musical choices for time of day and season. His performances are an effort to bring the listener into the present moment through vibration, space, and connection.

Nieve Ella

This is one name we really got excited to hear, some of the team was lucky enough to catch Nieve last year and LOVED her set. Nieve Ella is an English pop singer. Her 2023 release, Young & Naive/Lifetime of Wanting, charted at No. 38 on the UK Independent Album Chart. You might have seen her name pop up around as she has also supported Dylan, Inhaler, and the Courteeners, and is a member of Loud LDN.

Slow Fiction

Slow Fiction are quickly beginning to establish themselves as one of the most riveting and engaging
live bands emerging from the bubbling scene of New York right now. Their latest EP, Crush out this
spring via So Young goes further to prove their potential, borrowing notes of nostalgia and pairing it
with hard hitting truths and indisputable emotional weight. The masterful intertwining of personal
anguish with the array of musical inspirations and fuzzy, intoxicating tones makes Slow Fiction one of
the most exciting acts emerging right now, and this EP is just the beginning.

Highschool

HighSchool, the effusively-hyped Naarm/Melbourne-raised, now-London-based post-punk outfit, today announce their forthcoming second studio EP, Accelerator, and unveil their latest single and video ‘Doesn’t Matter’, out now via [PIAS] Australia. Out April 19, the release of Accelerator looks set to assert HighSchool’s full arrival and propel the duo from one of Australian indie’s best-kept secrets to much-fawned-over breakout stars.

Love remain (DJ)

Love Remain has been greeted with affection and high praise from the electronic music community, receiving support from Radio 1’s Sarah Story, Sian Elari, Danny Howard, Pete Tong and Lauren Laverne. Moments from 2022 were celebrated with regular London Introducing spins from Jess Iszatt and mixes for both BBC Introducing London and Clash Magazine and he has been supported by the likes of RA, Mixmag, Notion + more. Alongside his DJ sets, he is already building recognition as a live artist, with his first two headline live shows both selling out, including Corsica Studios back in November. He has supported Four Tet at his Finsbury Park takeover and performed at The Warehouse Project alongside the likes of Skrillex, Ben UFO, and Sherelle.

Ella Knight

DJ, singer and promoter Ella Knight is in high demand for her tasteful selections across a broad range of Soulful House 90’s pumping House-Garage and classic Disco.

An accomplished singer since 2016 and alumni of ‘Gilles Peterson’s Browns wood’s ‘Future Bubblers’ boasting an extensive catalogue of release and features. Ella has recently broadened her output to DJ in performing legendary sets across London including The Cause, XOYO and Corsica Studios. A recent highlight is her high energy Boiler Room London performance an unforgettable night which also featured Jayda D, Louise Chen and Helena Star.

LOUPE

Amsterdam-Antwerp indie rock formation Loupe has the unique gift of sounding both impulsive and hypnotic: a fluid sound in which styles such as synth pop, alternative folk and indie rock are expressed through their unique chemistry. The smooth, aerodynamic grooves of Annemarie, the melodic basslines of Lana and the dynamic, virtuoso playing of Abel form a kind of secret language. The recent addition of singer Nina Ouattara gives Loupe a unique voice to push the band towards a new creative path; the new single Tested Waters sounds both effortlessly groovy and intricate at the same time, and combines dark, moody lyrics with memorable sing-along hooks.
